FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - DRUM LESSONS BARCELONA

You don’t need any previous knowledge of the instrument or of music, you just need to be willing to take the plunge.

Most of the students start from scratch, so don’t worry, the drum lessons are completely adapted to your level.

And, if you already have some previous knowledge, we will see where you are and we will start from there.

The answer is no.

I have many different types of students, with different life circumstances and different availability.

There are people who can’t dedicate time to it but enjoy coming for an hour a week to have contact with the drums and with music. The process is slower, but class by class they make progress, building and enjoying it.

There are other students who can dedicate some time during the week, but they don’t have an instrument. Luckily there are several places around Barcelona where you can rent a space for hours with a complete drum set for a very reasonable price.

Then, for people who can dedicate some time to it but live in flats, there is always the possibility of buying an electronic drum kit, which is an excellent solution for these circumstances, as the sound they emit is minimal.

Whatever your circumstances, the answer is that you don’t need the instrument to start with, after a few lessons you will realise this and decide whether to buy an instrument or not, or rent a space by the hour.

If you are interested in finding out, you can simply come for a free trial lesson. You will have a first contact with the drums, you will get a clear idea of how I give the lessons, and we will talk about how we can personalize them for you.

Remember that after the first lesson, you decide without any obligation if you want to continue or not.

While there is no age limit for starting drum lessons, I usually recommend that it should not be before the age of 7 (approximately), as children, at this point, have reached the development of coordination and motor skills that will allow them to learn  rhythms and basic independent techniques.

I recommend you to take a look to the following post: Drum Lessons for kids – Music, coordination and creativity and Drum Lessons for Adults – It’s never too late to learn to play!.

Obviously there is no age limit upwards. I have had (and still have) drum students from 7 to 72 years old. In the lessons, the approach and pace of teaching is adapted according to the level and needs of each student, regardless of their age. From children to seniors, everyone is welcome to learn to play the drums and develop their musical skills.

Yes, it is possible to give drum lessons as a gift, many people do it for Christmas, birthdays, etc.

The most common is the gift of a Pack of 4 lessons, although you can also give single lessons as a gift without any problem. Just contact me by whatsapp clicking here -> WHATSAPP and we will arrange the details.

My drum lessons focus on providing personalised learning tailored to the individual needs and goals of each student. That’s why the lessons are usually individual and I don’t work with groups.

I believe that each person has their own learning pace, level and goals, and, as a teacher, I focus on providing a highly personalised teaching experience that is tailored to each student.

Yes, I also usually prepare special lessons for two people (not a group), where both of them have a first experience with drums.

If it is the case that one of the two people has some experience playing another instrument, I usually put together a combo to play a song together as a band (guitar, bass and drums).

To learn how to play the drums from scratch, I recommend:

  • Familiarize yourself with the basic structure and components of the battery.
  • Learn to read sheet music and understand musical notation.
  • Start by practicing simple rhythmic patterns and gradually add new elements and techniques.
  • Consider taking one of my lessons or using online resources such as tutorials and videos.

If you want to learn to play electronic drums as a beginner:

  • Familiarize yourself with the interface and settings of your electronic drum kit.
  • Practice basic patterns and rhythms using the pads and pedals.
  • Use online resources, such as tutorials and applications, designed for beginners in electronic drums.
  • Consider taking lessons with a drum teacher.

The duration to learn to play the drums varies depending on the person and their dedication. Some can acquire basic skills in a few months, but progress depends on regular practice and previous experience in music.

  • It starts by knowing the basics of the posture and grip technique of the drumsticks.
  • Learn to read sheet music and understand the symbols used for drums.
  • Practice coordination exercises and study different rhythms and musical styles.
